Are We Going To Make It?

Daniel 11 feels entirely inaccessible. What does antiquated Jewish history from the first three centuries BC have to do with us in the 21st century? Once we recognize that the chapter is not a simple retelling of history, but rather predictive prophecy, everything changes. The point of Daniel 11 is not to overwhelm you with the details of history, but rather for the details of history to overwhelm you with the exhaustiveness of God’s sovereignty.

If Daniel was written early and before the fact, what we have contained in Daniel 11 is one of the most dumbfounding examples of the omniscience and total control of God over history. The same God who ultimately brings about his good purposes in history is the one who brings about his good purposes in our individual lives.
