Membership

Joining our church

Scripture teaches that to belong to Christ is to belong to His people.

The New Testament consistently describes the church as a body made up of many members (1 Corinthians 12:12–13), united by the Spirit into one living organism. Paul identifies the Church as the body of Christ (Colossians 1:24), and assumes that Christians join themselves to a specific local church under loving leadership (Ephesians 5:29).

Membership is how believers express this biblical belonging in a visible, meaningful way. It is not a status symbol or a boundary of exclusivity. It is a covenant commitment to follow Jesus together, submit to Scripture, pursue holiness, support one another, and partner in the work of the gospel.

Baptism is the public sign of entering Christ’s body; membership is the lived reality of that belonging in a local church. For this reason, the Christian life cannot be separated from covenant community, mutual accountability, and ordered discipleship within a local church.

Becoming a member

Membership at Isaiah Church is open to anyone who has been born again (John 3:5–6), confesses Jesus Christ as Lord (Romans 10:8–10), and seeks to live a life of repentance, faith, obedience, and healthy relationships within the body.

Steps to becoming a member:

  • Attend all Membership Classes.
  • Meet with a pastor to share their story and desire for membership.
  • Understand, affirm, embrace, and sign the Membership Commitment.
  • Be baptized as a follower of Jesus Christ.
  • Be formally received into the church at Team Isaiah.

Baptism is not itself salvific, yet Scripture links baptism to union with the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:13; Colossians 1:24). The Spirit’s regenerating work unites a believer to the universal Church; water baptism publicly marks that belonging within a local congregation.

For this reason, those seeking baptism at Isaiah Church must first complete the membership process, which confirms their confession and understanding of the Christian life. Upon baptism, they are received into formal membership.

Believers baptized in another gospel-faithful church do not need to be baptized again, but must become members before participating in the Lord’s Supper. When transferring from another biblically faithful church, temporary admission to the Lord’s table may be granted while the membership process at Isaiah is completed.
