#followyourheart

Why do you believe what you believe? Where do your values, norms, and ethics originate? We might be inclined to say we were raised a certain way or inherited them from a religious system, but press in deeper and we often find that we aren't completely sure why or where some of our culture's most common and deeply held beliefs come from or why exactly they resonate with us personally.

These background beliefs affect us profoundly, even if we are unaware of it. Perhaps the most influential and widely accepted idea is "follow your heart." While the ability to pursue our passions and deepest desires has provided personal transformation and upward mobility to many individuals and much good to society at large, it is often absorbed uncritically and almost always presented without the downside. The Bible presents a much more realistic view of the human heart and tells us how its flaws can be healed.
