Finding Refuge in a Holy God

Psalm 5 begins with a desperate cry for help. David does not hide his distress or pretend to be self-sufficient; he brings his words, groaning, and prayers before God, trusting that the Lord hears those who seek him.

David’s confidence rests in God’s holiness. The Lord cannot tolerate evil, yet in his steadfast love he welcomes sinners into his presence. God is both Judge and Redeemer, providing mercy through Jesus Christ for those who could never stand before him on their own.

All of us will experience "The Dark Night of the Soul" at some point in our lives. When we do, the proper response is to take refuge in God and rejoice. Lasting joy is not found by pursuing comfort, control, or self-reliance, but by running to the holy and merciful God who protects, guides, and provides for his people.
