The Destruction of Pride

Obadiah is the shortest book in the Old Testament, but it addresses one of the most important themes in all of Scripture: the problem of pride.

Written against the nation of Edom, Obadiah exposes the false security that comes from trusting in our own strength, wisdom, and position. Edom thought itself untouchable, but its pride blinded it to reality and ultimately led to its downfall. Through this ancient prophecy, we see a timeless truth: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

Pride may be ruinous, but humility is restorative. God's relentless opposition to pride is not meant to crush us, but to free us from the illusions that destroy us and lead us to the God of all grace.
